The ocean started out as it usually does - relatively calm. Above is a picture of our little beach and tide pools.
This is the view to the left of our condo.
But as the day went along, the ocean got less calm.
And more angry.
Until we ended up with this swirling mass of white water. The waves were crashing so fiercely against the lava rocks and the water was coming clear up to the wall below our condo property. White water was spewing everywhere. Most of the time you couldn't see the lava rocks below. It was cool!
We didn't do anything all day except stay on the lanai reading, sleeping, and watching the water. We made some recordings so you could see the systematic approach of the waves but they got lost in translation.
In the evening we attended an endowment session at the Kona Temple. The people were very friendly. After the session, the Kona stake president started talking to us, asking who we are, and where we're from. Out in the parking lot, his ward had gathered for a tailgate dinner. He invited us to join them and then introduced us, "Hey, everyone, this is Br & Sis Kane from San Francisco." They had a little table set up with food, some kind of pork dish with rice, fried chicken wings, little vienna sausages, banana bread, mangoes in a sauce, and tang. And then they had this aluminum pan with rolls soaking in some kind of milk. I didn't take any at first but then one of the sisters asked me had I tried the rolls soaked in coconut milk? It is a Samoan dessert. So I tried it and it wasn't bad. A little mushy on the bottom but otherwise not bad. In fact, all the food was good and the people so friendly.
We talked to the stake president for quite a while (found out he's a judge that was assigned to the Kona area from Hilo in 2000). One sister asked us if we knew where Discovery Bay is! Her son had met this lds girl from there online and had gotten engaged but then it fell through which I guess the woman was glad for. Just goes to show you what a small world it can be.
This picture kind of turned out weird. It looks like one you might use in a primary class (except for the antennae on the side).
This picture shows the sign really well but not the temple so I took another one and now you can see the temple better but not the sign-oh well. Now we've been to both Hawaii temples.
